To get rid of stench from garbage incinerating, case of RB Kousou
Tokyo Station is located in the central office area of Tokyo and is one of the biggest terminals in Japan with more than 4,000 trains and 2,000,000 passengers gassing through the station each day. There is a big underground shopping centre by Tokyo terminal where office workers and passengers enjoy shopping and dining. At the end of the shopping centre, there is a garbage incinerating facility with a SaniCom System.
This facility is operated by RB Kousou Co. Ltd., which is a subsidiary company of Japan Railway. The company deals with building planning and construction, building maintenance and operating, and cleaning and garbage incinerating. Recently, the company has started to give high priority to environmental business, such as water purification systems, reuse and recycling business, and trash and garbage incinerating systems.
Trash and garbage have been incinerated by local governments for long time, but there have been many problems, the cost and effect to the environment. The cost to incinerate them has been higher and higher constantly because of increase of the cost to construct incinerating plants and difficulty of finding suitable places for reclaimed land by them. For these reasons, it shall be a trend that each company must treat its own trash for itself. The company is seeking a future vision of treating trash and garbage.
The amount of burnable wastes from the shopping centre is 3,000 ~ 4,000kg a day, and more than half of that is restaurants waste. The company uses a new incinerating system with biotechnology on a trial. As the incinerating room is near to many restaurants, the company pays close attention not to spread bad smells from garbage. Therefore, the SaniCom System is operated four times a day automatically. The smell had been terribly strong before SaniCom was installed, but after several days, the effect was clear. Now, we can hardly feel bad smell even in the incinerating room.
